LaCie has a pretty good and well deserved reputation as does Seagate. There are have been some issues with WD and Maxtor and I don't know if they have been resolved. The store I work at part time has stopped selling Maxtor drives and while we still sell WD drives, we recommend only the USB2 models. Also take a look at what OWC (macsales.com) is selling.
Some would argue that the best deal is to buy a drive and enclosure and roll your own. There are some advantages and disadvantages. The main advantage is that you know exactly what drive you are getting and, if you buy from a reputable company, you also can control the quality of the enclosure. (See OWC again.) The three disadvantages are you have to wait for two purchases to arrive by freight (which can be an issue if you need it now), you have to put it together (a task that really isn't difficult usually but the wrong enclosure can make it a nightmare), and if something goes wrong you potentially have two different companies to deal with instead of one. The $$ savings used to be significant (as building your own PC used to be quite cost effective) but not so much any longer.
